BTS & Joseph Brant Team Up to Participate in ParticipACTION's Community Challenge 2025
We’re thrilled to share that Beat the Streets has been awarded a ParticipACTION Community Challenge grant! This June, we’ll be bringing our Wrestle 4 Fun program to Joseph Brant Public School with three special events designed to get kids moving, laughing, and building confidence through sport.
Thank you to ParticipACTION for recognizing our work and supporting inclusive, joyful, and active programming for youth across the country.
About ParticipACTION
If you grew up in Canada, chances are you remember ParticipACTION, those classic public service ads reminding us to “get moving.” Since 1971, they’ve been a national leader in promoting physical activity and encouraging Canadians of all ages to sit less and move more.
Each June, ParticipACTION hosts the Community Challenge, a nationwide celebration of physical activity. Communities log active minutes, host events, and compete to be named Canada’s Most Active Community. And thanks to this grant, Beat the Streets is officially part of the action!
Wrestle 4 Fun: Movement, Confidence, and Joy
Wrestle 4 Fun is our youth development program for kids aged 6–12, which utilizes the fundamentals of wrestling to get kids active while building confidence, teamwork, and resilience. But don’t worry, this isn’t about competition. It’s about having fun, playing, and developing physical literacy.
Since relaunching in 2021, Wrestle 4 Fun has reached over 13,700 children in the GTA. Some highlights:
80% improved physical abilities like agility, balance, and coordination
80% gained confidence from learning new skills
95% said they had fun and found value in the program
70% of teachers want wrestling to stay in their schools
As one Grade 6 student told us: “This class helped me manage my stress and feel more confident.” That’s what it’s all about.
Coming Up: June Events at Joseph Brant
We’ll be hosting Wrestle 4 Fun days on June 20, 24, and 25 at Joseph Brant Public School, where students will have the opportunity to try new moves, laugh with their classmates, and get active in a safe and supportive environment.
Joseph Brant is a TDSB school ranked 80th on the Learning Opportunities Index, meaning many of its students face higher barriers to extracurricular activities. These are exactly the schools we prioritize, because every child deserves a chance to move, play, and feel strong.
Earlier this year, five Joseph Brant students competed in their very first wrestling tournament, and four came home with medals. But even more powerful than the podium moments? The pride, confidence, and sense of belonging that those students carried back with them.
Thank You
We’re deeply grateful to ParticipACTION for supporting our work and to the educators, donors, parents, and partners who make it all possible. Together, we’re building communities where young people feel seen, supported, and empowered.
